A Profession and a Passion
A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Jeff Castle grew up surrounded by history. Ironically, until his thirties, he knew nothing of his own family’s history. Beginning with what was planned to be a weekend project, over the next fifteen years Jeff discovered his many deep roots spreading from the Appalachians to Great Britain. This hobby became a passion which evolved into a career. As he gained knowledge and experience, Jeff began researching others’ family histories and answering genealogical questions.
Jeff completed the rigorous Boston University Genealogical Research program and received a certificate in Forensic Research from the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh. Jeff has attended multiple National Genealogical Society conferences and is a former editor of the Lowcountry Courier, the newsletter of the Charleston Chapter of the South Carolina Genealogical Society. He served as president of the Scottish Society of Charleston from 2016 to 2017. Along with owning Castle Genealogy, he is also a genealogical researcher for the Past Conflict Repatriations Branch of the U.S. Army and is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, the National Genealogy Society, the South Carolina Genealogy Society, the South Carolina Historical Society, and the International Society for British Genealogy and Family History.
